Orchestra Ensembles:
Below is a rehearsal schedule and description of the goals of each ensemble:
6th Grade Orchestra
Most student started playing in Orchestra in 4th Grade or 5th Grade. Some students started in earlier grades. Students in 6th Grade Orchestra rehearse in small groups as well as the large group. Most of the Orchestra songs in earlier grades were melody-based - all students played the same melody. In 6th Grade we begin to add harmony, and well as reinforce curricular concepts. A key goal is for all students to be prepared for 7th/8th Grade Orchestra by the end of 6th Grade.
7th & 8th Grade Orchestra
All students will be challenged to achieve personal goals for progress on their instrument, while learning and performing music at the intermediate-advanced level. Most 7th/8th Grade Orchestra members have participated in Orchestra in 6th grade and earlier grades, and should be able to demonstrate correct posture and hand positions, play one or two octave D and G Major Scales, and identify notes and fingerings used in D and G Major. Students in 7th/8th Grade Orchestra rehearse in small groups as well as the large group.
